The Golden Gate Bridge spans the one mile Golden Gate strait, between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1927, this suspension bridge joins San Francisco to Marin County. It carries both the famous U.S. Highway 101 and the equally famous California State Coastal Highway 1. The bridge is easily one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco.
